Upholding the Rights and Integrity of Journalists in Tamil Nadu

A Legacy of Advocacy and Commitment Since 1994

Divan Mydeen M

TThe Tamil Nadu Press & Media Reporters Union (TNPMRU) has a rich history of championing the rights and welfare of media professionals. Originally founded as the “Union of All Journalists” in 1994, the organization faced challenges, including the cancellation of its registration in 2010. However, our unwavering commitment to the cause led to a successful re-registration in 2016, recognized by the Labor Commission of Tamil Nadu with certificate N3579CNI.

Our union proudly represents a diverse group of professionals within the media industry, including Journalists, Editors, Assistant Editors, Print Media workers, Visual Media professionals, Photographers, Printers, Typists, Caricaturists, and others involved in book publishing, online visual media, online newspapers, and advertising agencies.

Defending Press Freedom: The Dignity Protest Initiative

One of our most significant initiatives was the Dignity Protest demonstration held at Rajaratnam Stadium in Egmore, Chennai, on Monday, June 1, 2022, at 10:00 AM.

This demonstration represented a powerful stance against the mistreatment of journalists and a firm demand for the right to free expression.

It called for a public apology for the injustices faced by our profession and highlighted our commitment to protecting the integrity of the media.

As TNPMRU continues to grow and advocate for the press and media community, we remain steadfast in our mission to support journalists and uphold the highest standards of media integrity.
