The 26th State Conference of the Tamil Nadu Press & Media Reporters Union (TNPMRU) was held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 5:45 PM at the Maple Tree Star Hotel in Vadapalani, Chennai.
The grand event saw the participation of distinguished guests, including judges, police commissioners, social activists and film stars, who delivered special addresses and enhanced the grandeur of the occasion. State office bearers, regional representatives, and district leaders from Chennai and across Tamil Nadu attended the conference. The event was meticulously organized in a fully air-conditioned hall.

The event was presided over by Justice S.F. Akbar (former Judge of the Madras High Court) and Durai Jayachandran (former State Human Rights Commissioner). Additional dignitaries, including police officers, popular film stars, and the President of the Chennai Press Club, also participated and delivered speeches.
The program began with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The Union’s Secretary delivered the welcome address, followed by speeches from the distinguished guests.
Release of Souvenir:

The 26th Anniversary Souvenir was unveiled by Justice S.F. Akbar, with Durai Jayachandran receiving the first copy.
Awards for Senior Journalists:





Senior journalists were honored with awards, with the special guests acknowledging their significant contributions to society’s progress.
Distribution of Identity Cards:
State leaders, district representatives and new members were provided with identity cards. The Union’s State President emphasized that this initiative reinforced members’ recognition and rights.
Speeches by Guests:
The distinguished speakers highlighted key themes, including the importance of press freedom, the authenticity of news, and the media’s contribution to society. Justice S.F. Akbar emphasized the media’s role in supporting democracy, while Durai Jayachandran underlined the need to protect journalists and human rights. Police officials stressed fostering better relationships between the media and law enforcement.
The special guests were honored with shawls as a token of respect.
